  • Handmade soap is often made in small batches and can be made from scratch using the cold or hot process methods. Soap makers may also use a ready-made soap base. Natural additives like oatmeal, coffee grounds, and salt can provide additional benefits like exfoliation, soothing, and a calming effect. A good quality soap bar will feel dense and hard and won't immediately start to break down when wet. This soap is cold press soap. Common Carrier oils are olive, rice, avocado, castor, coconut, sunflower, and almond oil to name a few. Essential Oils are used unless otherwise noted on the ingredient list. Mica Colorant is used for color. Soaps also contain Titanium Dioxide to whiten the batter. In addition, these soaps contain Sodium Lactate to make the soap firmer. And lastly, Sodium Hydroxide, Lye, which is the active ingredient to cause saponification of the soap. Saponification is a chemical reaction where a fat or oil (lipid) is converted into soap by mixing it with a strong base, like sodium hydroxide (lye) or potassium hydroxide, producing glycerol and fatty acid salts which are essentially soap molecules; essentially, it's the process of making soap from fats and oils.
