The Ongoing Story
Welcome to A Wise Apothecary. I’m glad you’re here. Before you explore the site, I would like to introduce myself. I’ve spent nearly thirty years as a practicing mental health professional—a Licensed Professional Counselor with a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision. I’ve taught future counselors, guided clients through life’s challenges, and even specialized as a Certified Sex Therapist through the American Association of Sexuality Counselors, Therapists, and Educators. For much of my life, my purpose was clear: family and career. But when my sons left home and I transitioned into semi-retirement, I faced a question many of us do: “Now what?”
Purpose is more than just a goal. It’s the force that drives you out of bed in the early morning, the sense of urgency that makes life meaningful. After retirement, I realized I was missing that spark. I tried to find it in familiar places—moving closer to family, reconnecting with old routines—but nothing worked. I learned, as Thomas Wolfe wrote, “You can never go home again.” Nostalgia distorts the past, and chasing what once fulfilled me only left me unfulfilled.
But that journey of searching became my purpose in itself. Through self-exploration, travel, reflection, and growth, I discovered that life’s meaning is not static—it evolves with us. This realization became my guiding principle and led me to a new path: combining creativity, purpose, and altruism.
And so, A Wish Apothecary was born. Formerly Your Color Puppy, LLC, this platform allows me to contribute to a cause I care deeply about: giving a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves—our animals. Over the years, my love for my Boston Terrier, Bruce Willis, has opened my eyes to the vulnerability of animals in our world. Through this endeavor, I hope to support their safety, welfare, and preservation. A portion of every sale goes to charitable organizations dedicated to these causes.
This isn’t just about candles. It’s about purpose, connection, and making a difference. My goal is to create something meaningful—for myself, for you, and for the world around us.
Thank you for visiting. Explore, enjoy, and know that your support helps amplify voices that need it most. As Rumi wisely said, “Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and right-doing, there is a field… I’ll meet you there.” If you ever need guidance or support, I am here—ready to help, ready to listen.
Warmly,
Brian
